Movie Time: Nightbitch

We got the chance to screen Nightbitch, a horror comedy with a splash of dark humor in it. It stars Amy Adams as Mom and Scoot McNairy as Dad. The film is about a woman who was once a artist now a stay at home mom who feels somethings happened to her body after giving birth. The movie is based of a novel by Rachel Yoder and a screenplay from Marielle Heller. Mom(Adams) feels out of place being a stay at home mom and develops heighten smell and unique tastebuds, her husband who is always on the road comes back to help but is more of a hinderance than helper. Once the husband leaves she goes back to her animal instincts until she turns into a dog. The transformation scenes are fantastic and very descriptive. We love how Adams mannerisms as she senses her dog like instincts. The performances of the mothers in the library who meets every week is great as well. Scoot McNairy as Dad gives a comic relief/reality check vibe with his performance. Adams' performance is very spot on as a mother trying to figure out her true purpose and being. The script was not too bad either as if you was reading the book and walking into Mom's shoes as she tries to figure out who she is. The dialogue between Mom and Dad is great especially in the scene where they argue about putting their son to bed and getting a separation. That was one of the significant scenes of the movie and change the movie from comedy into drama. Another significant scene is when Mom meets her grad school friends and her instincts to become a dog overpower her awareness. Nightbitch is a lot of things in 90 plus minutes such as emotional tugging, battle of the sexes and raising babies in a professional world. The background of the city where the dogs run through is great and the park scene is a beautiful landscape. Another great performance is Jessica Harper who plays Norma who helps Mom go through motherhood. Her lines suited the character well. Nightbitch is a good dark comedy movie with a splash of drama, There is very little horror and that's ok because that's the tagline to lure you in. Overall we love the transformation concept and whimisical family aspect throughout the film. Not a bad film to catch in the theaters when it's released and enjoy on a winter date.
